Volunteer Roles
***Please note that volunteer sign up will be prompted and required to complete registration. This is just a listing of volunteer opportunities.***
All swim team families are expected to volunteer for 3 swim meets during the season. Each meet requires AT LEAST 30 volunteers from each team in order for it to run efficiently- so please do your part. If you do not sign up then other parents have to do your share of the work, and that is totally uncool, man. Children whose families fail to meet this requirement will be given the side eye by the rest of the parents all season, and will be assigned a volunteer duty by the swim team coordinators.
You will be prompted to sign up for volunteer opportunities at the time of registration. Here is a list of volunteer options:
- Announcer: Needed for home meet. Announces the meet, provides score updates, and calls swimmers to Clerk of Course.
- Clerk of Course: Lines up swimmers for every event to ensure they are in the correct heat and lane.
- Stroke & Turn Judge: Determines whether swimmers are swimming the strokes as dictated by TSA rules and guidelines. Requires a brief Triangle Swim Association class which can be taken in-person or online. Prior swimming knowledge preferred.
- Runner: Runs DQ and time sheets from Stroke and Turn judges and timers to the scoring table.
- Scorer: Scores the meet from judges results and time drop times
- Order of Finish: Decides order of finish in main events.
- Starter: Home meets only. Begins all events - Experience and a class for instruction needed
- Kid Pusher: Monitors and aides swimmers 10 and under and ensures they report on time to clerk of course for each race. Kid Pushers must be able to arrive at 4:30 for home meets and 4:45 for away meets. Two parents are assigned to each age group 10 and under.
- Ribbon Writer: Records main event swimmers on placement ribbons or prints off labels and places them on the ribbons. Ribbons are then filed in ribbon box for swimmers to pick up the next day.
- Heat Winner Ribbon Distributor: Distributes heat ribbons at the conclusion of each race (except heat 1).
- Timers: Times all events and all heats in one lane. No experience required (just the ability to pay attention and push a button).
- Hospitality: Home meets only. Distributes water to volunteers and coaches during the meet.
