team shirts/towels/suits/caps, time trials breakfast, signing out for meets

Happy Friday!  Woo-hoo!  Let's cross our fingers for a weekend of sun, warm temperatures, and NO rain!

Team towels/-shirts/suits

The Apparel committee and I will be at the pool today from 5-7 pm handing out team t-shirts, towels, and team suits.  We only received a small shipment of team suits.  If you ordered a team suit before the May 18th deadline, and it was supposed to be delivered to the pool but we do not have it, you will need to call Kiefer Aquatics (919-439-8678).  Also, we have NOT received the swim cap order yet.  As soon as we do, we will let you know.

We will be at the pool one more day next week (I will let you know in advance what day that will be) during practice time to pass out shirts, towels, etc.

Time Trials/Mock Meet vs Lakemont

We are super excited to announce that our time trials (Saturday, June 10) will also serve as a mock meet with Lakemont Swim Club.  This is a great way for our swimmers to not only get times for our first official dual meet, but to swim against different competition and visit with friends.  Each swimmer will swim the freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly (6 and unders will NOT swim butterfly) events.  If time permits, we will also try to have a fun relay or two.

Our coaches are working diligently to teach our swimmers each of the four strokes, but if we get to time trials and your child is not sure how to do one of the strokes we only ask that they try their best with what they know.  As the season progresses the coaches will continue to work on stroke technique to get each swimmer able to swim the strokes properly.

If you have not done so, please fill out this google doc for our coaches (see below).  It is very important that the coaches know if you will be missing time trials (and any of the other meets this season).

Time Trials Breakfast

The Spirit Committee has organized a donut and fruit breakfast for after time trials.  Please see the sign-up genius below if you are willing to either contribute food or money for the breakfast.

The sign-up genius also has slots for parents to volunteer to donate items for the upcoming  "Donut Tuesdays" where swimmers receive a donut after morning practice.  In order for this treat to happen weekly, we will need parents to help out in with donations.

Minis will be back in the water on Monday!

With the increase in temperature the water seems to slowly be getting warmer, therefore the Minis will stop dryland practice after today.  Starting on Monday, the Minis will resume water practice and will NOT need to bring clothes or shoes for dryland.  Thank you to the Mini's parents and swimmers for your flexibility with this week's practices.

Practice and Meet Attire

While it is not required, it is highly encouraged that girl swimmers wear a swim cap to practice.  The swim cap will not only help keep hair out of their face, but it will also help to hold goggles in place especially when diving in.  If your child wants to wear a swim cap to practice, they can wear any cap they wish.  Please keep in mind the more you wear your team cap the higher the chances are that it will rip or stretch out.  It might be best to purchase extra swim caps from Amazon, etc and save your team swim cap for the dual meets.  Your registration fee includes one team cap, therefore you may have to purchase another team cap if yours gets lost or breaks.

For the swim meets, we do ask that all girls wear their Quail Hollow team swim cap.  Boys are also welcome to wear a swim cap in practice and/or a team cap in dual meets.

We have had a great first week of the season and we are excited for our competition phase to start soon.

As always, please reach out to me with any questions or concerns.

Thanks!

Katie Humphries
