dryland practices, signing out of meets, stroke and turn judge, time trials

Good morning Quail Hollow!   There is a lot of important information below so please read the entire email, and let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks!

Katie

Despite the cold weather we had a great first day of practice.  We were all amazed at how tough the swimmers were by staying in the pool to practice.  Given the air and water temperatures, we will be making some adjustments to practices (see below).

Dryalnd Practice

For the rest of the week, we will be incorporating dryland exercises to afternoon practices.  All swimmers need to wear their swim suit, running shoes, and clothes to practice.  They also need bring a water bottle and towel each day.  The coaches will conduct practice outside of the pool and incorporate exercises like sit-ups, push-ups, lunges, etc in addition to lite running.

While some teams have canceled practices for this week, we feel that it best to continue with practices, but limit the amount of water time as dryland exercises are very beneficial for swimmers.

The coaches will make a decision the day of practice on whether the 10 and unders and 11 and up swimmers will get in the water after dryland or if they will have dryland for the entire one hour practice.  It will all depend on the weather at the pool during their practice time.

The Minis will have only dryland practice until further notice.  The coaches can still work with the swimmers on technique for each stroke on land as well as age appropriate land exercises.  As soon as it warms up, the Minis will be back in the water for the full 30 minutes of practice.

Signing OUT of meets

The coaches have created a Google doc for you to fill out stating the meets you will NOT be attending.  They have asked that you fill the form out for each one of your children who are participating on swim team.  The list includes time trials (Saturday, June 10) as well as our 6 dual meets.

It is very important that the coaches have an accurate list of all swimmers who will be missing any meets as they need it to create the line up.  We understand that things happen last minute and children get sick, but any planned absences need to be sent to the coaches via this form as soon as possible.

Stroke and Turn Clinic

We have two volunteers to be a stroke and turn judge this season, but it would be great if we could get one more.  If you are able to be a stroke and turn judge for our team, please let me know.  You will need to attend an online clinic (Thursday, June 1 from 7-8:30pm) to be allowed to work this position during a swim meet.

Time Trials

Time trials will be on Saturday, June 10 from 8-10 am.  We need all swimmers to attend if possible.  If your child cannot attend, please reach out to the coaches about a time to make them up as the coaches will need to use times to help them seed the entries for the first dual meet.

We also need volunteers to help run time trials.  This can count as one of the three volunteer requirements.  There are a few positions that still need to be filled.

The Spirit committee will be creating a sign-up for a post time trials breakfast treat for all swimmers who attend time trials.  They will be asking for donations from parents.  More information will be coming in the next week on the donations we need.
