IMPORTANT INFORMATION
May 1st
Good morning! Please read this email and the attachments as they contain lots of important information.
Saturday's meeting
If you were unable to attend the meeting on Saturday, please see the meeting handout (attached) for the information that was covered.
A few key items that were discussed regarding changes to the team this summer:
Register for Swim Team
- Registration closes on May 8th. Use the following link to register:
- Swimmers registered for the team (including the Minis) will receive a team cap and t-shirt as part of their registration fee.
- The team is also selling team towels and caps with your swimmer’s last name. The prices are listed in the registration link. They are optional and are being used as a fundraiser for our team.
- If you are planning on ordering a team suit, please see the first attachment as to how to place an order.
New Guidelines for Joining the Swim Team
- Swimmers must be able to swim half a lap unassisted (doggy paddle is fine) in order to be on the swim team.
- The reason for this is safety. It can be dangerous for a child if they can't get themselves to the wall independently while the coaches have their back turned to work with another child.
- If you are unsure if your child is able to swim the lap unassisted, you can still register your child for swim team and the coaches can do an evaluation once the pool opens. If it determined that your child is not quite ready for swim team, the club will refund you the registration fee.
The Minis are back!
- We are bringing back the Minis swim program.
- The Minis are for swimmers who are water safe (can swim a half lap unassisted), but are not quite ready for a full hour of swim practice.
- Minis will practice four days a week for 30 minutes.
- They will focus on learning how to swim the four strokes legally as well as how to dive.
- Mini swimmers will be included in all of the team activities including the Tuesday dual meets, end of season banquet, etc.
- If you have registered your child and feel that the Minis group is the best fit for them, please email me ([email protected]) and let me know.
- If you are unsure if the Minis or the 10 and under practice would be best, the coaches can evaluate your child when the pool opens.
- Swimmers who are planning to swim in the 10 and unders practice will need to be able to sustain a 1-hour long swim practice.
- If your child is signed up for swim team and it is determined by the coaches that the Minis swim group would be more beneficial for your child, the coaches will contact you directly.
Volunteering for Swim Meets
- I have changed how we are signing up for volunteer spots for the dual meets.
- It is no longer included in the swimmer registration.
- It is still the expectation that families are to volunteer for three swim meets this summer. This team cannot run without volunteers and all families need to help out.
- I will send up a sign-up genius for the first three swim meets in the next few weeks.
- If it is determined that your family has not volunteered by the fourth meet, you will automatically be assigned to volunteer for the last three meets.
- If you are signed up to volunteer and are unable to fulfill your role for a meet, it is your responsibility to find a replacement for your position.
- An explanation of the volunteer jobs is in the first attachment.
- Stroke and Turn judges are required by the league to attend a clinic (there is a zoom clinic you can attend). We need three stroke and turn volunteers. Stroke and turn judges need to have a swimming background and understand the mechanics of each of the four strokes.
- Please see the second attachment for all clinic dates and times.
Changes to practice schedule
- We are changing the format of practices for the team. Please see the updated practice schedule in the first attachment.
Junior Coaches
- At this point in time, we will not have junior coaches this summer.
- The first point of contact for your child’s swim instruction should be our two head coaches who are very experienced swimmers and coaches.
- Swimmers 10 and older will be allowed to be kid catchers at the meet swims for the 6 and under swimmers.
Swim lessons
- If you are interested in scheduling swim lessons, please contact the coaches directly. Their contact information is listed in the first attachment.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Thanks!
